We Dodged a Bullet!

Today the Supreme Court decided NOT to hear the LabCorp v. Metabolite case after all.

Good thing!

Patent law is confused enough already without the Good Justices weighing in on matters scientific.

Korean copyright suit over Advent rising.
The infringing subject matter at issue has to do with a scene from FFVII: Advent Children, and a music video from Korean singer Ivy in the song “Sonata of Temptation.” The Korean singer appropriated the content from Square-Enix without their permission or authorization. Below are the links to the respective videos; the similarities between the two are immediately apparent, and quite striking.
Digital Security Systems files patent infringement suit against major Blu-ray players.
The legal battle between SiRF and Global Locate began before Broadcom bought Global Locate in July 2007. SiRF initially took Global Locate to federal court over patent infringement and then Broadcom counter-sued. Those suits were stayed pending the ITC ruling.
Suit filed against company Microsoft is buying.
With the acquisition still pending, Microsoft isn't named as a defendant in the suit. The Redmond company referred questions to DATAllegro, based in Aliso Viejo, Calif. DATAllegro didn't respond to requests for comment Wednesday afternoon.
Historic intellectual property ruling could validate open licenses.
The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit yesterday ruled that a license called Artistic License, similar to Creative Commons, was violated in a dust up between model engineer software developers. One developer created software that could be used to program the tiny trains, put it under Artistic License, and then alleged that another developer took parts of his work, incorporated it into commercial software and didn't give any credit to the original author.
